Flickering or blinking lights are usually caused by one of the following:
- Problem with the bulb (not in tight enough or lightbulbs that are incompatible with your dimmers, especially with LED and old style dimmers) ...
- Faulty switch or dimmer.
- Appliances or HVAC
Could be a sign of loose wiring
Appliances or HVAC units pull large amounts of current on startup, causing a voltage drop. IF this is a new occurrence you may want to have the HVAC load tested and/or have a panel maintenance check to check for loose wiring, corrosion or any electrical faults within the panel (Mainly Breakers) which also can cause flickering. The biggest danger here would be the faulty breakers.
Pay now or pay later
If the damage is extensive enough it could damage your electrical panel beyond repair. Panel Maintenance is approx. 250 to 300 dollars. And it is recommended that maintenance be preformed annually. An Electrical panel replacement can be from 2500 to 4000 dollars depending on size and type of installation needed.
